Buttered chicken is a mild curry made mainly from tomatoes, but this curry contains a good amount of onions. However, the Indian butter chicken is similar to the chicken tikka masala, which is more spicy and intensely flavoured.
The amount of spices that go into chicken tikka masala is more than what goes into butter chicken, and it adds the characteristic deep flavour to the chicken tikka masala.
To make chicken tikka masala curry, you need: diced chicken, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, ginger, garlic, curry paste, garam masala, cumin, turmeric, tomato paste, coriander, salt, pepper, black pepper, chickpeas, oil and cayenne.
You need the tikka masala to marinate the chicken.
Basically, make tikka masala and chicken, leave in fridge until ready to cook, cook, eat and enjoy!
To make the flavour more complex, spice up the mix by adding cumin, smoked paprika to get an extra smoky flavour that mimics the fire – a licking taste.
