Travellers should also be aware of Interstate 295, which connects Trenton with Delaware and Philadelphia and runs through the centre of the city and the Jersey coast.
There are parts of the state where it is very rural, such as northern New Jersey and the southern half of Jersey City. These are the areas that people who live and work in New York and Philadelphia go to relax.
Most of New Jersey’s population lives in New York City and surrounding counties such as Jersey City, Newark and Camden. Many people who work in New York or Philadelphia commute by train, car or bus.
You can expect crowded highways and angry motorists, New Jersey is famous for its traffic jams, especially in the late afternoon and early morning. The state occasionally restricts vehicles to only travel in one direction, so expect crowded roads and occasional delays due to traffic jams.

The state packs many people into a relatively small area, it does so by creating a lot of manufacturing jobs. New Jersey has a large urban population because it attaches great importance to manufacturing and the most important role it has played in the country’s history.
