There is nothing scarier and more beautiful Then visit the abandoned places of New York to experience history and decay. Fort Totten Park, a popular spot for city explorers, may not be welcoming many tourists to Governors Island. The park is located on a peninsula in the Queens borough and is named after the Civil War – a fortress from the time that hides in the visitor center. Many writers have documented the history of the establishment of the base at the turn of the century and the turn of its history as a park. Sources: 1, 3, 7
Today, the Army Reserve is present there, and the two forts are located on the eastern edge of Fort Totten Park on Governors Island in the New York borough of Queens. The fort was built to protect the east side of the East River and its eastern entrance to the Hudson River, and today it is located at the southern end of a peninsula in Queens, Queens.
The construction of this fort began in 1862 with the idea that it would be used to defend the western entrance from Brooklyn and Queens from the North Atlantic, combined with the offshore Fort Schuyler, which faced the west and east coves of Manhattan and the west side of Staten Island. Originally it was supposed to defend the eastern entrance to New York Harbor, but it was also intended to be defended by combining it with a second fort, Fort Schenectady, on the east coast of New Jersey, just off the coast of Long Island City, New York, near the southern border of the city with Connecticut and Rhode Island, and a third fort on the west coast of Manhattan, in Westchester County, New York, and a fourth fort in the East End of Brooklyn. The idea then was that an intruder approaching through the sound would be prevented from entering the East River during an attack on New York. Sources: 0, 3, 5, 6
Fort Totten is also the regional headquarters for the New York area, with administrative offices and staff quarters within the fortress. Nike missiles are located at Fort Totten, and their facilities allow scientists to stay and work in data collection and other partnership work, greatly expanding the scientific and technical work of the US Army Research, Development and Engineering Command. The ferry portal is located in the East River at 134th Street and in the Bronx, and you can catch the Q13 or Q16 buses to the end of the line. Although there is a large pond that is part of the fort that the army reserves for its reserves, it is almost impossible to reach it because it is surrounded by a thick wall of concrete and concrete walls, with only a few hundred feet of open space. Only licensed personnel are allowed to drive through the gate at FortTotten, but as it was still an active base, no cars are allowed to drive through the gate. There is no public access to parks and recreation areas within the city limits, nor is it used as a military base or by the army or any other military organization in the United States or Canada. If you follow the fence to the right, you will find where you can reach the fortress, and from here the Urban Park Rangers begin their tours, which lead through a tunnel under the fortress walls. When it is open, park rangers are supposed to guide visitors through the tunnel that leads from the visitor center to a water battery. Branzetti said the park is open in winter, but he said all tours at the fort must be arranged with the city’s park rangers. Sources: 2, 3, 7
